Moxi-D® Eye Drops are manufactured by Laborate Pharmaceuticals. The active ingredient Moxifloxacin is a fourth-generation Fluoroquinolone antibiotic with a broad-spectrum activity. Dexamethasone is a synthetic member of the glucocorticoid class of steroid hormones. It reduces symptoms associated with bacterial infections such as itchiness, swelling or reddening while Moxifloxacin fights bacteria and clears up the infection.

- steroid-responsive inflammatory eye conditions, where bacterial infection or the risk of its occurring exists;

- post-operative inflammation and any other ocular inflammation associated with infection;

- during intraocular surgeries like Phaco, Vitreo-retinal surgeries and in selected cases of refractive surgeries.

MOA (mechanism of action):

Moxifloxacin is a synthetic antimicrobial agent that exhibits its bactericidal action through inhibiting the bacterial DNA gyrase enzyme, required for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair and recombination. Dexamethasone is a potent corticosteroid that effectively controls the inflammation by inhibiting the release inflammatory mediators. Namely, it involves phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins, lipocortins, which control the biosynthesis of potent mediators of inflammation such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes.

Moxifloxacin is effective against gram-positive bacteria (Corynebacterium species, Streptococcus viridans Group), gram-negative bacteria (Enterobacter cloacae, Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella oxytoca, Moraxella catarrhalis, Serratia marcescens), anaerobic microorganisms (Proprionibacterium acnes) etc.

Instill 1 or 2 drops into the conjunctival sac(s), every 4 to 6 hours.

During the initial 24 to 48 hours, the dosage may be increased to 1 or 2 drops every 2 hours.

Frequency must be decreased gradually or warranted by improvement in clinical signs.

Do not discontinue the therapy prematurely.

Moxi-D® Eye Drops are associated with allergic reactions, even following a single dose. Discontinue using drops immediately and contact your physician at the first sign of a rash or allergic reaction.

Prolonged use of Moxi-D® Eye Drops may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. If superinfection occurs, discontinue using these drops and institute alternative therapy.

Prolonged use of Moxi-D® Eye Drops may result in glaucoma with damage to the optic nerve, defects in visual acuity and fields of vision, and posterior subcapsular cataract formation.

Moxi-D® Eye Drops may cause your vision to blur temporarily after you have applied them into your eye. Do not drive or operate machinery until this has worn off.

Avoid contaminating the applicator tip with eye, fingers or another source.

Patients should not wear contact lenses while using Moxi-D® Eye Drops for eye infection.
